The basics
What is a WhatsApp broadcast message?
It’s one message sent to many customers at once, but each person receives it as a private chat. On the WhatsApp Business API, these are called campaigns.
- WhatsApp broadcast message
- A WhatsApp broadcast message is a message a business sends to many customers at once, delivered to each one as a one-to-one chat. Through the WhatsApp Business API, broadcasts use Meta-approved templates, can include images, buttons and personal details, and can only be sent to customers who have opted in.

Message types
What you can send in a WhatsApp campaign.
Every campaign uses a message template approved by Meta. Here’s what a template can hold.
The three kinds of WhatsApp templates
Meta puts every template into a category. The category decides what it can be used for and how Meta charges for it.
Offers, launches, re-engagement and newsletters. Needs opt-in and is the most expensive category.
Updates about something the customer started: order, delivery, booking or payment reminders.
One-time passwords and login codes.
How it works
Send a WhatsApp broadcast in four steps.
Choose your audience
Import a CSV or Excel list, or pick contacts by tag, attribute or past activity.
- Import from CSV or Excel
- Filter by tag, city or past purchases
- Only opted-in contacts are included
Write the message
Pick an approved template and add each customer’s details.
- Image, video, document or carousel
- Personal details like name or order number
- SAGE checks new templates against Meta’s rules
Schedule and send
Send now, or pick the day and time your customers are most likely to read.
- Send now or schedule ahead
- See how many contacts will receive it
- Nothing goes out until you confirm
Track the results
See who received, read, clicked and replied, and why any messages failed.
- Delivered, read, clicked and replied
- Failure reasons for each message
- SAGE suggests what to do next
AI campaign analysis
SAGE tells you what to do after you hit send.
Most tools stop at a delivery report. SAMWAD’s AI advisor, SAGE, reviews each campaign and gives you a prioritised next step.
- Know who you actually reached. Delivered, read and failed are split out, so you see the real audience, not just the send count.
- Fix the list before the next wave. SAGE flags undeliverable contacts and helps you clean them up.
- Retry only when it helps. It tells you who is safe to retry, when to do it, and when a retry won’t help.

After the send
Follow up based on what each customer did.
A campaign is the start of a conversation. Replies go straight to your team inbox or into a chatbot journey, and you can re-send to people who didn’t read or follow up with people who clicked.
When a customer replies, a 24-hour window opens in which you can chat freely, without a template.

Book a demoWhat is a WhatsApp broadcast message?
It’s a message a business sends to many customers at once, delivered to each person as a private one-to-one chat. Through the WhatsApp Business API, broadcasts use Meta-approved templates and can only be sent to customers who have opted in.
Do customers need to save my number?
No. With the WhatsApp Business API, customers don’t need to save your number to receive your campaigns. They do need to have opted in to hear from you on WhatsApp.
How many people can I send a WhatsApp broadcast to?
With the WhatsApp Business app, a broadcast list holds up to 256 contacts. With the API, you can message your whole opted-in audience, within a daily messaging limit set by Meta. That limit grows as your account sends more good-quality messages.
Why do campaigns need message templates?
WhatsApp only lets businesses start a conversation with a template that Meta has approved. Templates are grouped into marketing, utility and authentication categories. SAGE checks your templates against Meta’s rules before you submit them.
How much does a WhatsApp broadcast cost?
Meta charges for each template message delivered, based on its category and the customer’s country. Marketing messages cost the most. SAMWAD passes Meta’s charges through at cost with no markup, and you pay separately for your SAMWAD plan.
Can I personalise and schedule campaigns?
Yes. Add details like the customer’s name, order number or date to each message, and send now or schedule it for later.
What happens when customers reply?
Replies go to your shared team inbox, or can start a chatbot journey. A reply opens a 24-hour window in which you can chat freely, without a template.
Why weren’t some messages delivered?
Common reasons are numbers that aren’t on WhatsApp, customers who blocked your number, and Meta’s limit on how many marketing messages one person receives. SAMWAD shows the failure reason for each message, and SAGE tells you whether a retry will help.
How do I keep my WhatsApp number in good standing?
Message only people who opted in, send content they expect, and don’t send too often. If many people block or report your messages, Meta can lower your quality rating and your messaging limit.
